George Gershwin(1898-1937) Rhapsody in blue  Rapsody in Blue from with Marcus Robert Trio  조지 거쉰 - 랩소디 인 부루(George Gershwin-Rhapsody in blue) - 피아노 wayne marshall / 지휘 Simon Rattle 베를린 필하모닉의 1995년 발트뷔네 여름 야외 콘서트. 미 작곡가 G.거쉰의 '피아노와 관현악을 위한 곡'  Rhapsody in blue ... 1923년 말, 당시 유명 밴드 리더였던 Paul Whiteman의 요청을 받고 쓴 작품으로 뉴욕에서 보스톤으로 가는 기차에서 악상을 떠올려 원래는 2 대의 피아노를 위한 것으로 1924년 1월 7일에 작곡을 시작, 2-3주후 완성하였다. 2월 4일 작곡가이자 피아노연주자인 Ferde Grofé 에게 악보를 넘겼고 그로페가 이것을 관현악곡으로 편곡한 것이었다. 초연은 불과 8일후 폴 화이트맨의 밴드와 협연으로 1924년 2월 12일 뉴욕 Aeolian Hall에서 "An Experiment in Modern Music" 이라는 타이틀로서 였는데 거쉰이 직접 피아노를 연주한 역사적인 이벤트가 되었다. Rhapsody in blue는 재즈의 작곡 기법과 랩소디풍의 양식이 교묘한 하모니를 이루고 있는 곡으로, 재즈로서는 교향악적 성격을 띤 최초의 성공작이며 심포닉 재즈의 대표작으로 오늘 날의 미국 음악의 발전에 큰 영향을 미친 기념비적인 작품이다. 이곡은 클라리넷의 낮은음에 꿈틀거리는듯한 트릴이 연주되고 두 옥타브를 약간넘는 사이렌 소리처럼 고조되는 포르타멘토로 시작되는데, 서정적이고 매력적인 리듬이 미국의 통속적 리듬과 도회지의 고독함 속에서 융합되어 멜랑꼬리를 자아내며 다양하게 변모해 간다. George Gershwin was an American composer, and Songwriters of Hall of Fame. He was born Jacob Gershowitz in Sep. 26 1898 at Brooklyn, N.Y. with Russian and Jewish Ancestry, and dead on Jul. 11, 1937 due to brain cancer. George wrote most of his vocal and theatrical works together with his elder brother lyricist Ira Gershwin. Gershwin composed both for Broadway and for the classical concert hall. He also wrote popular songs with success. Many of his compositions have been used on television and in numerous films, and many are recognized jazz standards; the jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald recorded many of the Gershwins' songs on her 1959 Gershwin Songbook (arranged by Nelson Riddle), and the very greatest singers and musicians have recorded Gershwin songs, most notably John Coltrane, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Judy Garland, Nina Simone, John Fahey, and countless others.
